This reading and discussion group will meet five times, on the last Sunday of each month, from now through June to explore different facets of the Civil War experience, informed by reading the words written or spoken by powerful voices from the past and present.
Session Three, April 24, Making Sense of Shiloh. The battle of Shiloh shattered any fantasies people had that the war would be won easily by either side. We will read eye-witness accounts from Ambrose Bierce, Ulysses S. Grant and Braxton Bragg, as well as modern writers Shelby Foote and Bobbie Ann Mason.
