In New York we celebrate the 1917 passage of suffrage but getting two-thirds of the states to vote in favor when the south remained solidly anti-suffrage was quite an accomplishment. Why did the deciding vote on the 19th Amendment end up in Tennessee? Learn something about the skullduggery and double-dealing that went on in the northern states, business psychology, and the power of one good woman's message.
Linda Van Buskirk will be the presenter. Linda Van Buskirk retired from the Department of Communication at Cornell, where she taught courses on Gender Communication and various writing courses. She is in her third term as a gubernatorial appointee to the CCC Board of trustees and its past president. She volunteers at the HSSM as a grant writer. Other activities include stream monitoring, gardening, horseback riding, and political campaign work. She is a long-time resident of Ledyard and grew up in Scipio.
Program will be in-person at Opendore, 2978 Route 34B in Sherwood and also available on Zoom. Reserved seating for current HSSM Members is available by emailing event@howlandstonestore.org. Or phone 315.303.2145.
